Dr. Joe Adams is the vice president of research and cybersecurity at Merit Network, Inc. Retired from the U.S. Army as a colonel, he taught at the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) as an associate professor and was responsible for USMA's cyberdefense course. As the chief information officer of the National Defense University, Joe build an information assurance program that was recognized by the commanding general of the Defense Information Systems Agency in 2010. In his current position, Joe is focused on leading and expanding Merit's network research and cybersecurity programs. He is the director of the Michigan Cyber Range, an internationally recognized platform for education, exercises and testing in cybersecurity.
Joe earned a B.Sc. in computer engineering from Syracuse University and a M.Sc. in computer systems engineering from the University of Arkansas. He earned his Ph.D. in computer engineering from Virginia Tech, where his research focused on network security and access control in mobile ad-hoc networks. He also holds a master's of strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
